HISTORICAL AND SOCIAL ASPECTS OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS ARCHITECTURE DEVELOPMENT IN EUROPE IN THE 20-21st CENTURIES
Abstract
Th e article is devoted to the study of the miscellaneous aspects of Islamic religious architecture evolution in Europe in the 20–21st centuries. Social and historical events, as well as sociocultural changes in the European countries in the late 20th and early 21st centuries defi ne the relevance and timeliness of the issue. Th e compositional role of mosques and Islamic cultural centers in the architectural and artistic image of modern European cities could be identifi ed owing to the study of mosque as a piece of architecture of “cultural minority” with its specifi c nature of artistic integration into European space, as well as due to the study of the development and transformation of Islamic religious architecture features in diverse regional areas. Th e article not only provides extensive coverage of main stages in the evolution of Islamic religious architecture in European cities, but also gives a cumulative overview of mosques’ architects.
