FOUNDATIONS OF ERNST MALLY’S FORMAL THEORY OF OBJECT
Abstract
Th e article describes the main features of Ernst Mally’s formal system of the object logic. Th is system contains the object-theoretical construction of the propositional logic, theory of logical consequence and the theory of classes. Methodological unity of Mally’s approach are explained by his desire to expand and formalize the Meinongian theory of the object as an universal means of knowledge construction. Th e conclusion of the article is that the system of Mally is rich in its expressive power, superior in this respect to propositional logic, but the lack of a common semantics for all of its fragments makes any use of the system problematic.
