Abstract

In the twentieth century China was involved in the rapid globalization process, which exerted signifi cant infl uence on art education. At that time the art adopted many western styles and techniques. A number of prominent artists was involved in the educational process and raised many talented students. Aft er the establishment of the PRC in 1949 the young state adopted the Soviet higher education system. Tight control of the cultural sphere, followed by the fi rst 40 years of communist power, in the 1980s was replaced by the thaw that allowed artists to continue their experiments which were started in the fi rst half of the twentieth century. Success of contemporary artists prove the wholesome character of previous century educational innovations.
