THE ORIGIN OF SOCIOLOGY IN THE COURSE OF A. S. LAPPO-DANILEVSKY «SCIENTIFIC BASES OF SOCIOLOGY IN THEIR HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT» (BASED ON THE ARCHIVE)
Abstract
Th e article is based on a manuscript by Alexander Sergeyevich Lappo-Danilevsky (1863–1919) «Scientifi c basis of Sociology in its historical development», stored in the St. Petersburg branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Lappo-Danilevsky was one of the leading theoreticians of history, a specialist in historical epistemology. At the same time, Lappo-Danilevsky combined lessons on the philosophy of history with the teaching of sociology. Lectures on sociology scholar contain extensive historical, sociological and philosophical material. Considering the origins of sociology, Lappo-Danilevsky dwelt on modern philosophy (Bacon, Descartes, Hume) and the philosophy of the French Enlightenment (Montesquieu, Kondorse, Turgot). Background sociology, according to Lappo-Danilevsky, could be reduced to the history of philosophical doctrines, which was subsequently accepted by positivism. Refs 9.
