MEDIATION, INTERPRETATION, CREATIVITY: THE BOUNDARIES OF TRANSFORMATION OF MUSEUM SPACE
Abstract
Th e article analyzes how the terms “mediation” and “interpretation” are applied in museology and the impact of new artistic practices on exhibition activities. Th e researchers have equated museum space with exhibition, because it allows to build all forms of museum communication, becoming a mediator between museum and public. Display as a specifi c form of historical interpretation is only a model, artifi cial construct, based on certain logical rules and methods of using a kind of “signs” and “images”. Scientifi c interpretation of historical sources does not exclude creative thinking, and promotes expansion of cognitive and artistic boundaries of museum space, including holdings of a museum, which are demonstrated to a visitor. Th e author distinguishes between the terms “creation” and “creativity” in the context of contemporary museum practice.
