Abstract
Th e matter of the article is to consider symbolical philosophy, especially symbolical realism. Th e Philosophy of empiricism infl uenced the romantic view on symbolic character of language. Heidegger’s view of ancient thought is the end of romantic symbolism. Contemporary study of symbols is realistic (Whitehead, Putnam, Ankersmit). Th ere is no general symbolical language. Symbol is a picture of an idea. It is like word and image; it does not have a strict meaning. Th e meaning of symbols is a metaphorical one. It is impossible to apply the analysis of concepts like the analysis of symbols. Th e more general a symbol is, the less it is interpretable in a logical or allegorical manner. Th ere is no universal symbolical system for all mankind.
