KARL JASPERS AND MICHEL FOUCAULT: HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY AS A PRACTICE OF “CARE OF THE SELF”
Abstract
Th e paper is addressed to sources of philosophical projects of K. Jaspers and M. Foucault and calls as such methodological and epistemological critics of psychology. Th e author compares stages of their career and starting points of criticism in philosopher’s early works, shows sources of their researches of history, heritage and practices of the past, history of philosophy. Both philosophers share a negative attitude to psychology as science which provides knowledge of soul and soul’s life. Th ey both refer to philosophy as the “true” psychology, through which are possible the work on the self, living experience of soul’s life, negotiation of contradictions which underlie human existence, and personal enhancement.
