THE HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY AS AN ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE: PHILOSOPHY VERSUS HISTORY
Abstract
Th e article considers the problem of correlation between the historical and philosophical contents within the history of philosophy as an academic discipline of modern university. It concerns the issues of teaching philosophy and history of philosophy in the sphere of higher education and at the philosophical faculties especially. It discusses also the understanding of the status of philosophical knowledge in the system of sciences nowadays. Th e author argues the thesis that one of the urgent tasks of the history of philosophy today is upholding and keeping the continuity of culture as well as preserving of the eff ectiveness of memory based on the legacy of the past. In this regard, the history of philosophy as an academic discipline and school of thought should take its appropriate place in the system of modern university education. Refs 6.
