Modern Problems of Education in Religious Studies
Abstract
The paper analyzes the current approaches to the teaching of religious studies in modern Russia. Modern religious studies are characterized by objectivity, attempt to avoid ideological, apologetic or critical assessment, considers religion as a cultural-historical phenomenon and suggests studying religious beliefs, communities, denominations and churches in all their diversity, recognizing various religions as an important component of a general culture of the mankind. Special attention in the paper is paid to the phenomenological method in teaching religion studies in schools, and reveals the main objectives and principles of learning in the school course “Basics of religious cultures and secular ethics”. Declared principles of teaching of this course is based on the fact that each religion is unique, each one gives meaning to human existence, but the question remains: how the reality corresponds to these declarations.
